Connacht Crunch 2018

30/09/2018 | Yesterday UCC sent a small ladies squad up to Galway for Connacht Crunch, the 3rd and final instalment of the Irish Summer Ultimate   Jaz Series.

This was no ordinary tournament – just like in Leinster Lunch and Munster Munch, there was a twist to the style
of play. Connacht Crunch used a fast play format: 5v5,
no pulls, continuous play, and subbing on the fly. Each game was an intense 25-minutes of non-stop running
and with only one substitute on the team, our girls had
to really push themselves to the limits.

Final placing: 5th

The team was a mix of experience levels, with half the players being developmental. UCC came away with a win in the first game against DITCD (a merger between DIT and TCD), but were unfortunately faced with two more games in a row with no rest. Exhaustion got the better of us and we conceded the crossover which put us out of the semifinals. After a much needed break later in the day, UCC finished strong, beating out UCDX in the final game of the day. Despite being a small and relatively inexperienced squad, the girls improved and gelled as the day went on and had a great time!

UCC v UCD 2-9
UCC v TCD 3-6
UCC v UCDX 6-4

Shoutout to NUIG for organising the tournament, we can’t wait for IVs!!
